If you don’t have a corporate email address, Gmail can be a great option. It allows you to send form emails using Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.
Although using a Gmail server is simple, you must do it carefully. One condition is ensuring that Two-Step Verification is activated for your Google account.
Here’s a complete step-by-step guide to help you set it up.
Step 1: Enable two-step verification and get an app password
Before setting up SMTP with Gmail, you need to enable two-step verification for your Google account. After this, generate an app-specific password for Formaloo to send emails.
Log in to your Google account at Google App Passwords.
In the “Select App” dropdown, choose Mail.
In the “Select Device” dropdown, choose Other and type a custom name, such as Formaloo.
Click Generate.
Copy the password and save it in a safe place—Google will not show it again after clicking "Done."
⭐ Pro tip:
The password must be saved for later use. Google does not let you view your password after clicking “Done“. If you lose it, you’ll need to generate a new one.
Step 2: Add your custom sender Email to your Formaloo dashboard
Now that you have your app password, you need to add your Gmail account as your sender email.
From your Formaloo dashboard, click on your profile icon.
Go to the App Store, select Custom emails, and click on SMTP Settings.
Enter the following details:
Name
SMTP Username: [Your Gmail Address]
SMTP Password: [Your Gmail App-specific password]
SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 465 (or 587 for TLS)
SMTP default name
From Email: [Your Email Address]
Reply-to Email: [Email Address of the Sender]
Click Save to complete the setup.
💡 Pro Tip: Gmail’s SMTP configuration is easy to use and offers high reliability for sending emails.
Step 3: Create your custom email and choose your Gmail SMTP server
Now you can create custom email templates that will be sent via Gmail’s SMTP server.
In your Formaloo dashboard, go to Email Templates and create your custom email template.
To send the email through Gmail, go to Email Server settings in the template editor.
From the Email Server dropdown, select Gmail instead of the default Formaloo system.
Once your Gmail SMTP is set up, you can send emails through Gmail’s server, ensuring that your email notifications are fast and reliable.
