What you'll build
By the end of this guide, you'll be able to give each answer in your quiz its own point value, for example, 10 points for the right answer to a question, 0 for a wrong one.
As people fill out your quiz, Formaloo adds up their points behind the scenes and keeps a running score for each person who submits it. You can then show that score to them, sort your results by it, or use it to decide what they see next, all without learning how to build logic yourself.
When to use this
You're building a quiz or personality test and want each answer to carry points, without creating a rule for every single choice yourself
You're scoring leads based on their answers (budget, company size, timeline) and want one number to sort or route them by
You're grading a knowledge assessment and want the result ready the moment someone submits
You already have a form with single choice, dropdown, or rating-style questions and just want a fast way to turn answers into points
Step by step
1. Open Advanced logic
Open your form, then click Advanced logic or logic map. You'll see two buttons in the top right: Magic Logic and Scoring.
2. Click Scoring
A popup titled Score quiz opens, listing every question in your form that supports scoring, along with its answer choices.
ℹ️ Only single choice, multiple choice, dropdown, multi-select dropdown, NPS, and CSAT questions can be scored. Long text, signature, and file upload fields won't appear in this list.
3. Select or create a score variable
Use the dropdown at the top of the popup to pick an existing variable, or click Create new variable to make one without leaving the popup.
ℹ️ Only integer (whole number) variables can be used here. If you need decimals or a formula-based score, set that up directly in Advanced logic instead.

4. Type a point value next to each answer you want to score
Leave a box empty if that answer shouldn't affect the score at all.
For example, if you're building a personality quiz, one question might ask "How do you spend a free weekend?" You could give Went hiking somewhere new 3 points, Stayed in with a book 1 point, and Met up with friends 2 points. As people answer, their choice adds its own value to the score, so two people who pick different answers end up with different totals.
💡 0 is a valid score, and it's different from leaving a box empty. Enter 0 if you want to record that an answer was chosen without adding or subtracting any points.
💡 Points can be negative. Use this to subtract points for a wrong or red-flag answer, for example -5.
5. Click Save
Formaloo creates one logic rule per scored answer, adding or subtracting points from your variable whenever that answer is chosen. No manual rule building required.
6. Find your rules in logic
Every rule the popup creates lives in the Fields tab, under its question, exactly like any other calculation rule.
⚠️ If this variable already has more advanced rules, like ones with multiple conditions, a Multiply action, or rules that also touch a different variable, those rules stay exactly as they are and won't appear in this popup.
They're not deleted or changed, just not editable from here. Open Advanced logic to see the full picture, or use Magic Logic to build more complex rules in plain English.
ℹ️ If an answer already has two simple point rules adding to the same variable, only the first one shows here and gets updated when you edit it. The second stays in Advanced logic, untouched.
7. Change scores anytime
Reopen Scoring and select the same variable. Every score you saved comes right back, ready to edit. Saving again updates the existing rules, it never creates duplicates.
8. Remove scoring when you don't need it
Clear an individual box and save to remove just that one rule. Or click Delete all rules to remove every rule this popup created for the selected variable in one go.
⚠️ Delete all rules only removes what this popup created for the selected variable. Any other logic on your form, including more advanced rules on the same variable, is left alone.
The result
Your quiz now grades itself. Every time someone answers a scored question, Formaloo adds the right number of points to your variable in the background.
Show that score on your ending page with answer piping, sort your form submissions by it, or use it to route people with logic, all without opening Advanced logic once.
Want more than one scoring variable, weighting, or a formula-based score? This popup handles the common case fast. For anything past that, add and calculate scores using variable fields directly, or build the logic yourself in Advanced logic.
Used by an online course creator to auto-grade a 30-question certification quiz and show pass or fail instantly on the ending page.
