How uploaded files appear in generated PDFs

When respondents upload files to your form (images, documents, or any other file type), those files are also available in the generated PDF of each submission. This article explains how they are shown and how you can access them

Updated this week

How file uploads are displayed in the PDF

When a respondent uploads files:

  • Each uploaded file appears in the PDF as a separate “Receive File” link.

  • The number of links in the PDF matches the number of uploaded files on that submission.

  • You can click each “Receive File” link to open or download the file directly from the PDF viewer.

Example:

  • 1 uploaded image → 1 “Receive File” link in the PDF

  • 3 uploaded documents → 3 “Receive File” links in the PDF

Single vs. multiple files per file upload field

It doesn’t matter if:

  • The respondent uploaded one file in a field, or

  • Used a multi-file upload field and uploaded several files

In all cases, the PDF will show one “Receive File” link per uploaded file, so you can always see exactly how many files were submitted and access each of them separately.
