How to troubleshoot your custom SMTP settings

Learn how to update your Custom SMTP settings and troubleshoot when the Update button is grayed out.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Step 1: Where to find your SMTP settings

  • In your Formaloo dashboard, open your Profile (top-right corner).

  • Go to Apps & IntegrationsEmail templates.

  • Open the Custom SMTP tab to view, edit, or add your SMTP details.

Step 2: Updating your SMTP details

  • The blue Update button lights up only when every required field is filled in.

  • If it stays greyed out, clear each field and re-enter the values to trigger validation. Try retyping the password manually if it's been added by an auto-fill previously.

Step 3: Password requirements

  • Most providers require an app-specific password for SMTP (not your regular email login password).

  • Generate an app password in your email provider’s security settings and paste it into the SMTP password field.

Step 4: Connection details to double-check

  • SMTP host, port, and correct TLS/SSL settings.

  • Username matches the from email.

  • No extra spaces at the start/end of any field.

Step 5: Enabling your custom SMTP in email templates

  • Go to ProfileApps & IntegrationsEmail templates.

  • Open each custom template you want to send using your SMTP.

  • Scroll down the right-hand panel, and select your Custom SMTP server instead of the default Formaloo email server.

  • Save the template.

Step 6: If it still doesn’t work

  • Try re-typing the details in the fields one by one.

  • If the Update button still won’t enable, share a screenshot with our Support team of the full SMTP configuration so we can check what might be blocking it.
