Step-by-step
There are two ways to use Magic Design, depending on whether you want to create a new look or improve the one you already have.
Path A: Generate a brand-new design
Use this when you want to create a new theme without changing the one you're already using.
1. Open your form in the form editor. Click on the form you want to design. You'll land in the form builder view.
2. Click the AI dropdown in the top toolbar. Look for the AI button near the top of the form editor. Click it to open the dropdown menu.
3. Select Magic Design. A popup opens with a large text box.
4. Describe how you want your form to look. Type a short description in plain English. Be as specific or as casual as you like. Some examples that work well:
"Modern SaaS onboarding form, clean and minimal with a soft blue accent."
"Warm and friendly customer feedback survey, warm beige and orange tones."
"Playful colorful quiz for high school students, fun and easy on mobile."
"Elegant wedding RSVP form, cream and rose gold."
💡 Tip: You can mention brand colors, the mood you want, the font style, whether you'll embed the form, and even the form type (survey vs. form). The AI will pick up on all of it.
💡 Tip: You can also leave the text box empty and click Generate design — the AI will create a clean, modern theme based on your form's title and description.
5. Click Generate design. The AI analyzes your form and your description, then creates a new theme. You'll see the preview update instantly with the new design applied.
6. Review the new theme. The new theme appears in your theme list as an unsaved draft. Your current active theme is not changed.
7. Fine-tune the design manually if you want. Every setting the AI chose is editable — colors, fonts, layout, width, form type. Open the theme editor and adjust anything you'd like.
8. Save or discard the design.
Click Save to keep the new theme. It joins your saved themes and you can switch to it anytime.
Click Discard to remove the draft. Your previously active theme is restored exactly as it was.
Path B: Improve an existing theme
Use this when you already have a theme you like and want the AI to update it — without creating a new one.
1. Open the Design tab in your form editor. You'll see your list of themes.
2. Click on the theme you want to improve. The Theme Editor sidebar opens on the right.
3. Click the magic icon at the top-right of the sidebar. The Magic Design popup opens — same one as before, but this time it edits your current theme in place instead of creating a new one.
4. Describe what you want to change. You can ask for a full redesign, or just tweak one part of the current theme. Examples:
"Make this more professional, use a corporate navy palette and Inter font."
"I like this theme, just change the font to Poppins."
"Keep everything, just make the buttons orange."
"Same theme but make it wider."
💡 Tip: Phrases like "I like this design, just change…", "keep everything but…", or "same theme but…" tell the AI to preserve what's there and only update what you mention. Great when you're 90% happy with your current theme.
5. Click Generate design. The AI updates your current theme with the new values. The form preview updates instantly.
6. Adjust any settings manually. All five design areas remain editable — nothing is locked.
7. Save or discard.
Click Save to apply the AI's changes to your current theme permanently.
Click Discard to revert your theme to exactly what it was before Magic Design ran.
What Magic Design controls
Magic Design picks the right values for these five things, based on your form and your prompt:
Form type — Classic Form (all questions on one page) or One Question at a Time (Typeform-style)
Layout — centered, left-aligned, full-width, or wide
Color palette — background, text, button, field, border, and submit text colors, all with proper contrast for readability
Font and font size — chosen to match the form's tone (professional, friendly, playful, elegant)
Padding and width — how wide the form is, including 100% width when you mention embedding
What Magic Design does not touch
To keep your work safe, Magic Design never modifies:
Your logo, banner, background image, or any uploaded image
Your custom CSS
The actual form fields, field content, or form logic
Your success pages, email templates, or portal settings
Your form's title, button copy, or field images
If you've set up any of these manually, they stay exactly as you left them.
Final result
You now have a fully designed form — colors, fonts, layout, and width all chosen for your form's purpose and tone — generated in seconds from a single sentence. You can use Magic Design as often as you want, on new themes or existing ones, and you always have the option to refine the result manually before saving.
